Board Game Cafe in Korea

Fellow board game lovers out there, fear not, for there is a place for you in Seoul!  In the basement floor of a building lies a magical place where you can geek out with all of your friends.

Norito

The French Canadian took me to this particular place on a Wednesday afternoon.  We liked it so much we came back the very next day.

When we walked down the steps, we didn’t know what to expect. The atmosphere was very inviting and friendly. There were a few large groups of people laughing and enjoying themselves and some couples intently looking at their game cards. They also had some plastic squeaky hammers.

They charge 2,000 ($2 per hour) and also serve drinks and snacks, which were very affordable.

The people working were serving drinks and helping people with game instructions.  One guy was explaining the rules to a group of people.

One of the guys sat us down and showed us a menu.  In the menu was a selection of board games that we could choose from as well as a snacks and drinks menu.  They had a large collection of board games to choose from.  The game the FC and I played was Settlers of Catan.  I noticed they had several versions of the game (English and Korean, as well as extension games).

After getting settled and choosing our drinks (chocolate milk for the FC and coffee for me), we ended up playing intensely for the next few hours.  Before we knew it, almost four hours had passed!

For about 3-4 hours of fun and several drinks, we paid only 15,000 won.  I think it was definitely well worth it!

So if you want to play some games, spice up your date night, or geek out for a few hours, head over to the Board Game Cafe!

How to get there:

From Hongdae (Hongik University) Station, Exit 9, go straight and continue until you hit the next intersection.  At the intersection, cross the street and turn left (you will now be walking down on the right side of the street).  Continue walking for about 5 minutes.  There will be a little sign that says “Board Game Cafe”.  Go downstairs to B1, and let the games.. begin!
